The Holy Myrrhbearers

These are the women who sought to anoint the Lord after His wrapping and burial in the Tomb. They became instead the first heralds of His Resurrection.

These Saints are commemorated on the Sunday of the Myrrhbearing Women, as well as on their individual Feastdays.

  1. Mary Magdalene, Apostle to the Apostles, Equal to the Apostles
  2. Joanna, wife of Chuza (administrator in King Herod's court)
  3. Salome (daughter of St. Joseph; Theotokos' step-daughter)
  4. Mary, wife of Clopas
  5. Susanna
  6. Mary, the sister of Sts. Martha and Lazarus
  7. Martha, the sister of Sts. Lazarus and Mary
*St. Tamara, "King" of Georgia, is a Saint born long after this event that is counted (by her life) as an honorary Myrrhbearer.
