St. Maria Skobtsova died a martyr of Ravensbruk concentration camp during the Second World War. Though her early life was that of a radical atheist she later came to Faith (where, one might say, she became radical in other ways). After mayorship and two divorces, she chose the monastic life. She then sought to love the image of God in every human being, serving the poor, and rescuing Jewish children to safety.
